Essential Oils

Don’t throw away those old Essential Oil’s bottles just yet!

February 3, 2017

Are you a big essential oils fan? Same here! Over the years, I have accumulated quite a collection of essential oils bottles. I am a big fan of Young Living only because of their Seed to Seal process. My love for essentials oils began when I was trying to find holistic ways to ease back and neck pain that had started from having open heart surgeries. I couldn’t believe how much they worked and will never stop using them.

Since I have a life long disease, I try my best to find a good balance between holistic care and the use of medications.

With that, I have A LOT of empty essential oil bottles. Instead of throwing them away, I fill a small bowl of epsom salt and put the empty essential oils bottle upside on top. The epsom salt soaks in every last drop that comes from the bottle. After a few days to weeks, take the bottles out and spread that lovely smelling epsom salt bowl across a nice warm tub of bathwater!

A warm, relaxing, natural scented bath is perfect for those nights where you have a long day or week and need to take some time for mind and body.

My favorites area mix of Lavender, Lemon and Frankincense old bottles.

Enjoy 🙂

My Cardiac Catheterization Tips!

August 5, 2016

Preparing for a procedure big or small takes some preparation time.

This past Friday, I needed to have a Cardiac Catheterization done due to some issues involving my heart defect. One thing I’ve learned over the last few years of these procedures is that the more I am prepared mentally, the better outcome or recovery I have.

Even at 27 years old, hospital procedures big or small can be intimidating and downright humbling. Although necessary for your health, it always is a very vulnerable experience from the moment you enter the hospital to the second you get discharged.

I have learned to bring the necessities(maybe not necessary, but for my own sanity) to the hospital. If you have ever had a hospital procedure, surgery or any big testing done, you might know all too well that the waiting part to get taken back to the operating room can be a LONG one.

The waiting part is personally the hardest for me. It’s not that I’m impatient, it’s the fact that during waiting period all I do is think! I think about what could go wrong, the results, my future, the things I want or desire by next year and so much more! I find that to be one of the harder parts of these ordeals.

I can handle pain! I really can! Heck, I could handle more of the pain I felt from the actual cath since I had less drugs this time rather than thinking of trying to figure out my life after this.

A few things I’ve learned over the years is to make sure YOU have some necessities to make YOU feel the most comfortable, not just at the hospital, but in your overall life. People don’t realize that just because you have to have a procedure doesn’t mean that everything is fine and dandy in your life and all will go back to normal post recovery. For most people, it’s not that at all. So any little ways before, during and after hospital stays or procedures can help you keeping moving forward on this crazy rollercoaster ride you might be on just like me.

I am not someone who worry’s about my looks all the time, but when it comes to having no control over your body in the hospital, I tend to try and make sure I “look” presentable. At least as much as I can be. 🙂

A few things I packed for my Cardiac cath!

DRY SHAMPOO!! Ha, You might think wow this lady is worrying too much about hair even though its going to be pulled back or in a hair net sorta of thing. Most heart procedures usually involve incisions that you can’t get wet for a few days, so dry shampoo became my best friend for recovery times. A little dry shampoo for the days where you can’t shower helps you feel a little less dirty and oily.

A couple of clear elastic bands. Like I said above, you end up doing a lot of waiting before being taken back to the OR. Some people can pass the time by watching a movie or what not. For me, it’s the complete opposite. I need to be doing something. I can’t just lay there in a hospital and watch a movie. So, to pass the time, I braided my hair! It was great. It kept me focused on a small task without thinking and getting anxiety with what was about to happen at any moment.

My essential oils! If any of you have had a cardiac cath, you know the hard part is laying flat on your back for several hours after the procedure. I am a big believer in holistic care, but also modern medicine as I wouldn’t be alive without it. I think there is a good balance to be found with both and in situations like a cath, I know I can count on my essentials oils to help relieve discomfort and pain from laying flat on your back and neck after a long period of time. Who wouldn’t be in pain after not moving your body for several hours? Thankfully, my essential oil roll on helped keep my discomfort somewhat manageable.

Lastly, Try and schedule to see a Chiropractor and or Physical Therapist within a few days before or after your procedures(make sure your Doctor is ok with that first). I have found that my PT/Chiro team in my hometown has helped me so much with managing my back and neck pain that come from these types of procedures.

Above all, allow your body to recover! Put those feet up and watch some Netflix 🙂

Living a natural life style with a life long disease! It is possible :)

June 27, 2016

Good Morning beautiful people!!

Happy Monday to you! Today, I am going to be sharing a few details of how I try to balance a natural lifestyle while living with a Congenital Heart Defect.

Living with a Congenital Heart disease (or any lifelong disease) is TOUGH. Daily medications, eating habits, sleeping and overall lifestyle can sometimes be hard, but necessary.  Necessary to live, but also to enjoy and be present in YOUR life.

I have found that there are 4 things that if are not in check on a daily basis, my life may see upside. These are:

Eating habits

Physical fitness

Let’s start with food. After my 1st Open heart Surgery about 4 years ago, I made the switch to be 100% Gluten Free and have never looked back! Is it hard? My goodness it is, but it is SO worth it. Major surgery can bring on a lot of different issues including inflammation. Inflammation was a big issue for me and eliminating gluten from my diet was a game changer. Most of my family and friends even noticed a different in my face as gluten made my face puffy. Still to this day, if I accidentally ingest gluten, I will pay for it. This goes a long with life being being hard, but necessary. Happy body equals happy life.

Y’all have heard how important it is to keep your body active? Yes, i’m sure you have. But what if you are limited due to a heart defect or something else that might effect you from keeping your body active? This is a hard one for me. I am a heart patient and cardio workouts(if can manage) are super important. There are days and sometimes parts of my life where my defect has taken over and working out is too hard. Thats doesn’t mean I stop working out all together. One of the best ways to keep your heart and overall body moving is simply walking! I try to make an effort to either make a morning or evening walk everyday. I also incorporate low stress workouts like yoga and pilates. These two workouts are especially important for someone who struggles with a heart defect and may face multiple surgeries thats brings on other external issues.

*Of course, I am not a Doctor and you should always check with your physician or care team before starting any new exercise program or class 🙂 *

Don’t we all love our sleep? If you have had multiple intense surgeries or struggle with anxiety, sleep may be your long lost best friend. Fear not, there ways to get back on a proper and necessary sleep schedule.

~Rule of thumb for me is if I am tired during the day and need to lie down to rest, then I do it!! Just means my body needs rest after all it has been through and the same could be for you. I have found when I force myself to stay awake until bed time, I end up with a terrible night sleep and MORE tired the next morning.

~Put away your electronics!! This was a hard one for me because during both my recoveries, I was attached to my phone for many reasons. Fear being number one that if I needed help, I could call right away and then mainly when you sit in a recliner for weeks upon weeks you get pretty bored.

~Lavender Essential Oil. People think i’m this hippie girl with all these crazy oils that don’t work. Well, my friends, I am here to tell you that they do. With two Open heart surgeries and recoveries, along with a slew of anxiety problems, I needed something that would work and not bring on another side effect from more medication prescribed. I’m on enough meds, thank you very much. A part of my bedtime routine is setting up my diffuser with my Lavender Essential Oil. Sometimes, I’ll use other oils that promote a calming atmosphere such as Frankincense. It’s set up on my nightstand and I turn on before hitting the pillow.

This is probably the biggest part of my daily routine. It’s hard, downright hard especially when things keeping knocking you down, but having the right attitude about your food intake, workout plan, sleeping arrangements and more will help you each day to physically be present and enjoy the little things in life.

Focusing on these 4 important parts is what makes my life a little easier to live when things do get tough health wise.

I hope you’ve enjoyed a glimpse of my daily life living as a person with a Congenital Heart Defect. You can follow me more at and I’ll be your biggest cheerleader for taking care of yourself and a support system for surviving through life’s challenges 🙂

Ditch the toxic sheets!

April 10, 2016

I LOVE using Young Living’s Essential Oils for supporting my body and mind. One thing most people may not realize is these oils can be used for so many different things around your house. One of my favorites is the laundry.

I love doing laundry. Growing up in a big family, it was something that aways had to be done and of course there was a lot of it. I tend to find folding laundry even therapeutic for me. The putting away part…now I find that to be a chore. Ha.

One of my favorite things about doing laundry is finding ways to save on time, money and of course clothes smelling better than ever!

So ditch those chemical filled store bought dryer sheets.

What do you need instead?

  1. 3-6 Wool Dryer Balls(depends on size of load)
  2. 2-4 drops of Young Living’s Purification or Lavender Essential Oils
  3. Smell your fresh clean clothes & fold away!!!!!

I bought my wool dryer balls on Amazon and always use Young Living Essential Oils. Super simple and natural 🙂

Taking care of an important organ!

March 31, 2016

Are your hands dry and cracked?

My hands, thanks to the lovely winter months get so dried, cracked, brutally red and even sometimes bleed. Having a serious disease has made me a bit of a germaphobe, especially since I am always around little children. I try so hard to avoid any sickness during those nasty few months of cold and flu season. I am always washing my hands( multiple times a day) as that is the best way to prevent germs, but it does a number to my skin.

I have tried so many different products and lotions to see what would help my poor hands and have finally found something that is a miracle worker!!

Young Living’s Lavender hand & Body lotion is the Yes, I just said that! Ha. But people, it’s the truth.

This lotion leaves my hands feeling replenished, takes the redness away and smells amazing! This helps support the Integumentary System(our skin). This specific lotion is filled with natural ingredients and essential oils. I am relieved when using this lotion because it not only works, but I’m not applying nasty toxic chemicals that you find in other store bought lotions. Since the skin is the organ that protects internal structures from harm, it is crucial to to make sure we use non toxic products to keep our other bodily systems healthy. After all, our skin is the biggest organ.

Have you heard of Essential Oils?

Do you ever wonder what they could do for your health and overall well being? Maybe you are totally against oils or have tried them and felt like they didn’t do anything for you. Maybe you are unsure of what essential oils are, how they work and how they can compliment modern medicine.

Essential Oils are the life blood of the plant that initiates regeneration into the cells. They enhance the immune system of plants and they help support our bodily systems in humans. Anything our blood does for us is what essential oils do for the plant – they carry nutrients and oxygen to the different organs in our body. This is why Essential oils can be so affective at supporting our wellness.

Why I use Young Living ONLY!!!

Young Living is the oldest essential oil company in the world with the highest quality product on the market. They have a Seed to Seal promise that ensures ever bottle is 100% Pure and Therapeutic grade. They own their own farms which validates that the quality of these oils are top notch and most importantly safe for you and your family. These oils have and continue to help me with good and bad days of living with a Congenital Heart defect and especially used during my recoveries from open heart surgery.  Living with CHD pushes me more to take charge of what I can do to help support my body from a chemically invasive world. I am a product of how modern medicine has come a long way, but I do believe there is a balance in what we have control over what goes in or on our bodies. These oils compliment modern medicine.  Lastly, Young Living Essential Oils will never expire! How amazing is that?!

The Premium Starter Kit is the perfect way to start your oily journey!

What is my favorite oil?

LAVENDER!! It is such a versatile oil. I personally use to help promote a restful night sleep. I could never live without my Lavender.
